Substitutions

Some recipes may contain ingredients you are allergic to. Use these substitutions to make any recipe allergy friendly.

Instead of butter:
Use Earth Balance Soy Free Margarine or use Spectrum Organic Shortening. The margarine tends to melt quickly at room temperature, so for baking, use the shortening.

Instead of soy sauce:
Use coconut aminos. Typically it is not available in the regular grocery store. I know Plum Market carries it and some other specialty stores might also have it. If you're not allergic to soy, San-J makes a wheat-free tamari soy sauce.

Instead of milk:
Use rice milk or almond milk. You can also use Vance's Dari Free. It's made from potatoes and comes in a powder that you have to prepare. It also has to be ordered online.

Instead of buttermilk:
Add 1 tbsp distilled white or apple cider vinegar to rice or almond milk.
